The Red Devils Poised to Secure German Striker Lea Schüller from Bayern Munich

The Women's Super League club are on the verge of sealing the deal for prolific Germany striker Lea Schüller on a permanent transfer away from Bayern Munich.

A Major Signing for United

The forward, with six months remaining on her deal, has been a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. Having scored more than 100 goals for Bayern and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a major coup for the WSL team.

Departure from Munich has been anticipated since she was seen fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters following a win over Bayer Leverkusen recently.

Reports in late December that the German women's top flight was losing one of its top strikers. Per reports, the formalities for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Boost United's Forward Line

The experienced striker's signing is expected to provide a significant boost to the team's forward line. She has been highly consistent with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she achieved at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She won the top scorer award in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Gathering Steam at Carrington

The acquisition of Schüller’s signature coincides with a period when United appear to be gathering momentum.

Their recent performances feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs as a seeded team and a win in the Conti Cup quarter-finals.

Off the pitch, the winter break has seen additional activity:

  1. The signing of Swedish defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan playmaker Hinata Miyazawa, a popular figure since arriving in 2023.

Regarding Miyazawa’s new deal, a club official commented: “She has become a critical part to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and skill enables her and the team to dominate play from the middle of the park.”

The new defender, having arrived from a side from the American league, said: “You can feel how much they [United] have progressed in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
