The Reason Real Madrid Possess 'Complete Confidence' in Youngster Pitarch

The teenager has featured in seven games for the Spanish giants, featuring five appearances in the starting lineup.

Whenever a teenage makes Real Madrid a historic moment in a crucial Champions League tie against Manchester City, it inevitably draws praise and attention.

In only his first start in the tournament - and fifth appearance for the club - the young midfielder made a strong impression as the fifteen-time European champions claimed a 3-0 round of 16 first leg advantage at the Bernabeu.

The teenager, who also had his Real debut in the qualifying round a few weeks prior with a cameo off the bench at Benfica, then helped the Madrid side overcome the English champions in the midweek second leg to secure a quarter-final berth.

Aged 18 years and 226 days, Pitarch was the team's youngest player to begin two matches in the Champions League knockout stages, beating star Vinicius Jr's record by a week and a half.

A Meteoric Rise From La Fabrica

This talent is the latest to emerge from the club's academy and is rapidly cementing himself as one of the manager's most exciting protegees.

He joined Real from CD Leganes in 2023, having previously been with Atletico and Getafe youth teams, and starting out for the under-19 side, where he quickly made a positive impact.

Pitarch worked his way up to the reserve side and it was during a friendly match in which they faced the senior squad, then coached by the former defender, where the teenager is said to have drawn the eye of the current Real boss, who replaced the previous coach in the new year.

Reports would later describe the moment as "an instant connection," adding he excelled not only for his technical ability, but for the energy, character and drive he brought to the side.

'His Best Attribute Remains His Personality'

During the summer of 2025, former boss Xabi Alonso invited Pitarch to train with the first team and awarded him minutes in the warm-up matches.

Yet, it was Arbeloa's appointment that proved the defining moment in his development as he came on as a second-half replacement in both ties against the Portuguese side that set up the clash with Pep Guardiola's team.

"I've dreamed of this each night before going to bed, the first day I started playing the game, every day you go to train and each day you play a match," stated the player following his first appearance.

"I have just fulfilled my ambition with the greatest club in the world and in the top tournament."

Handed a starting debut in La Liga against his former club - where he was for four years after arriving from Atleti in 2018 - he has kept his spot for the following four as injuries to Bellingham and Dani Ceballos provided an opening.

Pitarch has seized it with displays that have defied his youth and experience.

"He is a very quick player, and you can see his capabilities," said Arbeloa. "He is extremely energetic, with great stamina, work-rate and movement."

Pitarch's mentality has also impressed his manager.

"His greatest quality is his character," continued Arbeloa. "He constantly demands the possession, and when pressed, he doesn't feel it.

"I understand people are surprised to watch him start in a European fixture, but he's playing because I had complete confidence in him to do what he usually does.

"He will keep receiving chances with the first team. It is delightful to have a talent like him."

A Future International Decision

Pitarch was born in Fuenlabrada, in the Spanish capital's community, and grew up deeply involved in the local game, progressing through local academies before joining Real Madrid's famous La Fabrica system.

He possesses both Spanish and Moroccan citizenship, offering him the option to represent either country at senior international level.

According to international regulations, players may represent different countries at youth level without being permanently tied, with the ultimate choice only binding once they play in a official full international.

He has played for Spain at underage levels, representing both the under-19 and under-20 teams, and took part in the 2025 Fifa Under-20 World Cup, where Spain made it to the last eight.

Despite this, he has yet to commit to any full national side, who are watching his rise with keen attention.

Speaking recently, the player confirmed: "I have not taken my ultimate choice yet. Things are great with Spain, but I'll make a conclusion in the near future."

This scenario echoes that of other dual nationality talents such as Real team-mate Brahim Diaz and Barca star Lamine Yamal. While 18-year-old Lamine chose Spain, Diaz opted to play for Morocco.

Focus on the Future

For now, Pitarch's focus is on establishing himself in the Madrid lineup and repaying his manager's belief.

He featured for over an hour in the 2-1 victory at City, which completed a five-one overall triumph and a quarter-final tie with the German champions.

His substitution by another academy player in Angel underscored Arbeloa's trust in the next generation to help the club pursue trophies to come.

Following his notable contributions to date on European football's biggest stage, Pitarch is expected to play a key role in that.

"Arbeloa handles me the identical way. We handle it very naturally. I attempt not to overanalyze it excessively - I must deserve my minutes on the field," he commented following the win at Manchester.
