New Details Emerge About the Discovery of the Reiner Couple's Bodies
Recent details have emerged regarding the shocking passing of renowned director Rob Reiner and artist Michele Singer Reiner, whose bodies were discovered at their Brentwood, Los Angeles residence on Sunday.
The Discovery
A source indicates citing a family associate, a therapist scheduled for an appointment initially became concerned after being unable to gain access the house. The therapist then contacted the couple's daughter, Romy Reiner, who lives nearby.
After gaining access to the house, Romy came upon her father's body. Accounts indicate she then fled the house in anguish, without knowing at that moment that her mother's body was also present. A companion who had accompanied her then dialed 911. Subsequently, paramedics located Michele Singer Reiner's body.
Criminal Charges
Authorities have charged the couple's 32-year-old son, Nick Reiner, with the charges of first-degree murder, along with the alleged use of a deadly weapon, reportedly a knife. He is currently detained and is ineligible for bail.
Clarifications
The confidential informant challenged several earlier details. They said that while Romy Reiner informed first responders that her brother Nick resided in a detached unit on the property, she did not name him as a potential suspect at that juncture.
Additionally pushed back against widely reported suggestions that Rob and Michele Singer Reiner had been particularly "apprehensive" about Nick's behavior in the weeks leading up to the incident. The source claimed the family was "used to working through [Nick's] problems together."
This refutation includes reports of alleged "unpredictable" conduct by Nick at a party held by Conan O'Brien the evening prior to the bodies were found. Although the source noted they were not in a position to confirm whether Rob had "chastised" his son at the party, they maintained that claims of a "major confrontation" between the two were inaccurate.
Ongoing Inquiry Details
According to law enforcement officials, the medical examiner had still not confirmed at that point whether the Reiners died on Saturday evening or on Sunday. Preliminary accounts indicated the condition of their bodies implied they had been dead for a period of time.
Nick Reiner was apprehended at approximately 9:30 p.m. on Sunday in the neighbourhood of Exposition Park, some 15 miles from the residence. He was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday, but his lawyer, Alan Jackson, said his client had not been medically cleared and would not be present until Wednesday or later.
