19 of Daniil Medvedev's twenty-one championships have been earned on hard courts

A comeback the Russian player claimed his first title for 882 days with success over opponent Moutet in the competition title decider.

The Russian, a ex- world number one, has had a torrid year, achieving just a single victory at the big events and suffering a meltdown at the US Open.

His inconsistency on the professional circuit - and difficulties with his service game in especial - led to him exiting of the elite rankings and ultimately parting ways with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now working with Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently improved in the recent weeks - peaking in a tightly fought three-set triumph over opponent Moutet.

This represents the player's initial championship following the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court from spring of that year.

Victory also indicates the Russian has achieved 21 victories at 21 various tournaments.

"This marks the first occasion I'm at a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to win a trophy is really nice," commented world number 14 Medvedev.

"This victory is in tribute of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I got when my older daughter her name was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his last six finals, featuring in Halle earlier this year.

His defensive approach and frequent emotional displays on the playing surface had caused some to doubt if his capacity to perform at the elite level was concluded.

However the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to advance forward and compete assertively, reinforced by an better service.

The champion came back from a break down in the initial set against the difficult Frenchman, securing 4 of the last five points to go ahead.

The competitors exchanged service breaks in the second set before Moutet, attempting for his maiden tour victory, took control to push for a decider.

He rescued four early break points in a close third set before the Russian broke to that score to serve for the match.

Fittingly, the winner clinched the win with a rally at the front of the court, with the Frenchman incapable to handle a return after over two and a half hours.
