Approximately fifty cars have been covered with what appears to be human blood in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, walls and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Officers state they were alerted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident noticed that a vehicle in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a red-colored substance.
The fluid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then located multiple other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws banning the public exhibition of Nazi symbols.
Officials state initial examinations show the fluid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no lead as to its origin; authorities are presently not aware of any harm in connection with the event," they stated.
Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to unravel the case" and have requested to the residents for tips.
An important representative stated the attack rendered him without words and had to be solved promptly.
"This act hits the core of Hanau and revives the trauma of the right-wing violent incident in 2020," he stated on a platform, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a shooter aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in February 2020.
