Brian Eno Urges Public Help to Send Palestinian Solidarity Song to UK Holiday Chart Peak.
A fundraising initiative is aiming to launch a traditional song from Palestine to the peak of the festive singles chart. The project hopes to deliver assistance to Gaza's residents while also highlighting Palestinian artistic heritage.
An Opportunity for Solidarity and an "Surprise Victory"
Renowned figure Brian Eno, who features on the track, stated that the single 'Lullaby' represents a moment to stand with Palestinians during the holidays. He noted the potential for an surprise number one.
“That would be amazing if that occurred, yes,” he stated. “I’m not gonna be completely disappointed if it fails to, holiday tracks are a unique phenomenon.”
Powerful Theme of Self-Determination
Palestinian singer Nai Barghouti, who features in the version of a folk song called Yamma Mwel El Hawa, explained the piece's defiant core message.
“It has a very special place for countless listeners,” Barghouti explained. “It’s basically saying that I would prefer a dignified death than exist without freedom. This is the primary message of the song; we desire to exist a dignified life that we deserve as Palestinians.”
Production History and Star-Studded Lineup
The track was produced after a solidarity show held in the autumn. First conceived to be done as a live recording, the rendition was cut from the show due to the event running long.
The notable list of performers featured on Lullaby features a range of acclaimed names from the music world. All were part of the benefit event, which successfully generated a considerable total for charitable causes.
Creation and Launch
Lullaby was brought to life by a trio of talented individuals. The song blends a fusion of the original Arabic with new English lyrics.
The team running the project have emphasized that their goal is to raise as much as possible for a dedicated fund. These resources will be channeled to Palestinian causes through an established charity.
“There is no a fixed goal,” a spokesperson said. “We’ll go for the maximum achievable. Of course, the higher the total, the greater the impact. All proceeds are directed out to Gaza.”
The situation in the region was noted for its extreme devastation, with a huge proportion of property described as destroyed or damaged.
“In that context, a handful of millions doesn’t make an enormous impact. But I think what does make a difference is primarily making this cause better known and showing that another narrative exists.”
The track is scheduled for release at the end of the week. Additionally, a video of the benefit event will be made available for streaming on a major video platform from later in the month.
