Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Has The Club's Backing Following PSV Defeat

The Liverpool head coach admitted that it was understandable for concerns to be asked about his position after a further heavy loss versus the Dutch champions.

The Reds suffered their ninth defeat in twelve games, representing the team's worst run after being demoted in the 1953-54 season.

They were dominated by the Dutch league champions on a punishing evening at their home ground.

“I am feeling safe, I am OK, I've received significant support from management,” the coach remarked.

“It's important to change things and secure a win obviously but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it's typical that doubts arise.”

He added, “I am OK with my situation. It is not the first time I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we improved our results.”

Discussions with Liverpool Hierarchy

When asked to expand on his discussions with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach explained:

“We talk a lot. They assist to the team and to me and we discuss these matters but they don't phone me every single minute each day to say they trust me.”

He added, “In the normal exchanges I perceive the trust. However I've not talked to them since this match so far so let’s see.”

Familiar Problems and Squad Response

The manager lamented familiar shortcomings from his squad in their Champions League loss, namely missed opportunities and leaking goals.

Meanwhile, midfielder Jones was more forthright in his assessment of the club’s predicament.

“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everyone,” the midfielder remarked.

“It is not good enough. I don’t even have to wait to consider it. I’m past being angry internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”

He went on, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the club I love. I'm a supporter, and I’ve seen this club all my life.”

“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side going through a phase such as this with results so bad.”

He concluded, “But we still have that badge on our shirts. And as long as that badge is removed, we will always fight.”

“We will attempt to bring this squad back to the top, demonstrate to all again what Liverpool stands for and the reason it's called the best team in the world.”

“At this moment, we’re in the shit and it must improve.”
